It is with a sad heart that I report the death of an amazing children’s author/illustrator, Tommy DePaola. He may be best known for the creation of Strega Nona for which he was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1975. At the age of 85, Mr. DePaola had authored or illustrated 270 books.
One quality of this remarkable gentleman was the ability to take difficult and challenging situations and turn them into a story or illustration that even the most skeptical of individuals could relate to. The irony of our current circumstances is not wasted.
In celebration of his life and work, the Lisbon School Library is proud to host this page. We invite students, staff, and teachers to submit original art to be posted here. If you choose to write a brief piece on how this marvelous author/illustrator has impacted your life, we welcome that as well. Please submit work to firstname.lastname@example.org.
